Founded in Paris by Robert Delpire in 1951, Delpire transformed photographic publishing through ambitious collaborations between photographers, writers and designers. Its landmark books include Robert Frank’s Les Américains, Henri Cartier-Bresson’s Les Européens and William Klein’s New York. Delpire also developed the influential Photo Poche collection. Darwin selects Delpire for establishing the photobook as an editorial work, where sequence, typography and reproduction determine how photography enters cultural history.
