Norio Takasugi, born in Japan in 1973 and based in Berlin, trained in industrial design and sculpture before turning to photography. His botanical and landscape images combine analogue photography with silver leaf, screen printing and controlled sulphur reactions, making every print materially unique. Darwin selects Takasugi for this unusual meeting of photography and Japanese craftsmanship, where chemical imperfection, metallic surfaces and three-dimensional construction challenge the reproducibility of the photographic image.
