Jean-Pierre Bourgeron follows the Reutlinger family’s photographic activity from 1850 to 1937, bringing the people behind the studio into view alongside the images they produced. The long timespan gives the book particular value: it allows a professional practice to be considered across changes in taste, photographic culture and the public role of the portrait. Family history and photographic history remain closely connected throughout the subject. With a preface by Jean-Pierre Seguin, the volume was published in connection with the Bibliothèque nationale’s 1979 exhibition, providing an extended historical framework for looking at the studio’s work and its place in the French capital.

Technical Sheet
Title: Les Reutlinger: Photographes à Paris, 1850–1937
Artist / Author: Jean-Pierre Bourgeron; photographs by the Reutlinger family
Date: 1979
Medium / Materials: Hardback
Pages: 175
Language: French
Publisher: Jean-Pierre Bourgeron
ISBN: 9782903097028
Condition: Used.
