Pietro Motisi’s Lucelutto grows from a fifteen-year relationship with Sicily and from Gesualdo Bufalino’s La luce e il lutto. Rather than treating the island as scenery, Motisi reads its spaces as evidence of a Mediterranean identity shaped by competing rational and magical forces. The photographs move through inhabited landscapes and overlooked interstices, building a map from the material conditions of everyday life. Published in an edition of 300, the book contains 93 colour photographs and texts by Motisi and Sam Laughlin.
