Diane Arbus — Diane Arbus — Idea Books Edizioni — 1982 — First Italian Edition
Edited and designed by Doon Arbus and Marvin Israel, this monograph brings together the portraits through which Diane Arbus transformed the encounter between photographer, subject and viewer. Children, couples, performers and people on the edges of conventional social life face the camera with a presence that unsettles easy categories. Small details of posture, clothing and expression make each portrait singular, while the sequence asks how identity is presented and how it is read by others. First published by Aperture in 1972 alongside the posthumous retrospective at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, the book helped establish the breadth of Arbus’s achievement. This is the first Italian edition, published by Idea Books Edizioni in 1982, with the photograph of the identical twins on its cover.
