Joe, Willets Point — Juliana Roccoforte Novello — 89books — 2024

Juliana Roccoforte Novello met Joe, a Polish immigrant, while walking through the Willets Point junkyards in Queens with a 4×5 camera in 2018. Repeated visits developed around Joe’s improvised studio and the Golden Pond, a large pool formed by a continuously running fire hydrant amid scrap and mud. The project turns an industrial landscape into a record of friendship, eccentricity and disappearance. Published in an edition of 89, the book contains 32 colour photographs.
