Cyrus Cornut photographs Chongqing with a 4 × 5 camera, a deliberately slow instrument in a city transformed at extraordinary speed. Bridges, high rises, riverbanks and lived-in streets register the pressure of construction on an urban landscape of more than thirty million people. The title's four shores suggest a city assembled across water and time. Cornut's measured frames let the scale of development and the persistence of everyday life occupy the same picture.
