Cikáni — Josef Koudelka, Torst, 2011 (First Czech edition)

Josef Koudelka’s Cikáni is one of the most complete photobooks ever made. First published in France as Gitans , this 2011 Torst edition returns the work to its origin—restoring the Czech title and voice of a project that defined Koudelka’s early career. Shot between 1962 and 1971 across Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, France and Spain, the images follow Romani families through a life of movement, ritual, survival and grace.
