El juego de la madalena — Julieta Averbuj — Fuego Books — 2022

After her father’s death in December 2017, Julieta Averbuj returned to his family albums in Buenos Aires. Looking closely at their photographs became the beginning of a tribute: a book in which remembrance takes shape through touch, repetition and unexpected connections. Found images and intimate Spanish-language fragments bring the family archive into a new sequence, allowing small gestures and remembered objects to carry the presence of someone absent. The reading experience extends beyond the turning of pages. Folded panels open outward, inviting the reader to compare, combine and rearrange relationships between images. Named after a game invented by her father, Averbuj’s first photobook makes play part of mourning and gives memory a physical, changeable form. Published by Fuego Books as Cuaderno de la Kursala No. 89, it accompanies her 2022 exhibition at the University of Cádiz.
