Taxi Driver — Steve Schapiro — TASCHEN — 2013
Steve Schapiro photographed the making of Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver in New York in 1975, moving between the set, rehearsals and the city around the production. His photographs capture Robert De Niro, Jodie Foster and the film crew while preserving the atmosphere of a pre-gentrified New York that became inseparable from the film itself. Drawn from Schapiro’s archive, the book works both as a record of a landmark production and as a photographic portrait of cinema being constructed in real time.
