Bieke Depoorter entered Egyptian homes by accepting invitations from people she met while travelling. After photographing nights spent with them, she returned to show the pictures to other Egyptians and recorded their responses. Those written exchanges are part of the book, complicating the photographer's position as an outsider and giving the images a life beyond the moment of exposure. Mumkin asks what access, trust and interpretation can mean in a changing society.
