Drawn from Boris Mikhailov’s photographs of Kharkiv in the 1960s and 1970s, this second selection returns to the series in which his artistic language first began to take shape. Domestic erotica, friends, nudes, urban landscapes and absurd still lifes oppose the prescribed visual culture of the Soviet period with something private, amateur and deliberately unruly. The photographs had often appeared in exhibitions but were omitted from the first Suzi book published in 2007.
