The Commune — Gerhard Jörén — 89books

Gerhard Jörén’s The Commune returns to an era when communal living, sexual politics and counterculture were being tested as alternatives to conventional social structures. The photographs function both as intimate records and as historical documents, preserving bodies, rooms and relationships from within the community rather than from a journalistic distance. Published by 89books, the book places personal freedom beside the awkwardness and complexity of collective life, giving the archive its force through proximity rather than retrospective mythology.
