Tonomura pushes her long-running work around love, desire and taboo into a darker, more confrontational register. The photographs repeatedly acknowledge the camera: subjects pose, look back and turn intimacy into an active exchange rather than something observed from outside. Across 41 images, love and photography become entangled as forms of attraction, risk and self-exposure. Published in 2022, TOXIC extends the autobiographical intensity of Mama Love and die of love while making the act of photographing itself part of the subject.
