Bertrand Meunier has photographed China since the late 1990s, following rural and industrial change through years of rapid growth. Erased brings this long investigation together with later work on systems of surveillance and the 2019 protests in Hong Kong. A member of Tendance Floue, Meunier builds his account from people and places altered by policy and capital. The book is a record of what development makes visible, and what it pushes out of the frame.
