Kurt Tong follows the traces of Franklin Lung, a man whose life runs through the Chinese diaspora and cosmopolitan Shanghai in the first half of the twentieth century. Family photographs, letters and press cuttings become the material for a love story shaped by upheaval and displacement. Tong's careful assembly makes the archive feel both specific and incomplete: every document opens another part of a life that cannot be fully recovered.
