Athens — Thanasis Karatzas — 89books

Thanasis Karatzas photographs Athens as an inhabited, contradictory urban landscape rather than a classical image of the Greek capital. Streets, architecture and ordinary encounters build a contemporary portrait of a city marked by density, improvisation and Mediterranean light. Published by 89books, the book keeps monumental Athens largely at the edges, concentrating instead on the visual character of everyday space. Karatzas allows the city to emerge through accumulated details rather than a predetermined documentary argument.
