Kittenish... — Tamiko Nishimura — Zen Foto Gallery — 2015

Nishimura returned in 2015 to photographs first associated with her 1970 Camera Mainichi work, reorganising images of friends made in intimate rooms decades earlier. The pictures turn ordinary proximity into something watchful and unstable, shaped by her recurring sense of being both observer and observed. Published 45 years after the original magazine appearance, the book gives this early work a compact hardcover form while preserving Nishimura’s insistence on the reality of photographing from her own position as a woman.
