Within Poster Archive, Japan is not a genre but a recurrence. ピンク映画 (Pinku eiga), manga adaptations, 北野武 (Takeshi Kitano)’s calibrated violence, speculative futures—each returns to the logic of 木版画 (mokuhanga): flat planes, charged ma, the body as emblem. We privilege this oscillation between 浮世絵 (ukiyo-e) memory and neon modernity. Eroticism, catastrophe, restraint. Paper carries both ritual and acceleration.
