Jane Evelyn Atwood, born in New York in 1947 and based in France since 1971, is known for long-term documentary projects on people largely excluded from public view. She has photographed sex workers in Paris, blind children, women in prison and victims of landmines. Darwin selects Atwood for documentary photography built through sustained access and trust, confronting confinement, vulnerability and marginalisation without reducing her subjects to anonymous social types.
