Gekisha: Joyū-tachi / Dramatic Shooting: Actresses — Nobuyoshi Araki — Byakuya Shobō — 1978 — First Edition
Gekisha: Joyū-tachi is an early collaboration between Nobuyoshi Araki and editor Akira Suei, bringing photographs of more than twenty women together with writing that moves between fact and invention. The idea of the actress extends beyond a professional role: the book considers how people perform for a camera and how a photographer constructs a story around that encounter. Originally connected to magazine publication, its portraits and nudes draw attention to the unstable boundary between photographic evidence and narrative fabrication. Published by Byakuya Shobō in 1978, it anticipates the interplay of images, fictional accounts and editorial provocation developed in Araki’s later pseudo-reportage books. The colophon in this copy identifies the first edition, issued on 1 November 1978.
