Nueva Ola — Sofia Ayarzagoitia — Los Sumergidos — 2026

Hands, feet and bodies meet in photographs of migrants passing through La Coyotera in Monterrey during spring 2022. Sofia Ayarzagoitia connects this place of encounter with journeys shaped by La Bestia, the freight-train route associated with migration through Mexico. Her attention to bodily proximity makes solidarity tangible: contact, rest and shared space carry the account as strongly as the idea of movement. The project also draws on a personal, dream-inflected perspective, giving documentary experience an emotional register without reducing the people photographed to illustrations of a social issue. Edited and designed with Fernando Gallegos, this first edition turns a temporary gathering into a sequence concerned with collective survival, vulnerability and the need to belong.
