Seoul, Modern Times — Han Youngsoo — Hansgraphic — 2014

Han Youngsoo walked through Seoul in the years after the Korean War, when trams, street vendors, new buildings and improvised daily routines shared the same streets. Drawn from photographs made in the mid-1950s and early 1960s, Seoul, Modern Times was the first book through which his foundation brought this archive back into view. Han watches the city at human height: people waiting, working and moving through an urban landscape being rebuilt around them. The photographs record modernisation without losing the small decisions of ordinary life.
