Souvenirs du Japon en couleur — Musée Nicéphore Niépce — Éditions du Chêne — 2008

An album of hand-coloured photographs from late nineteenth-century Japan, reproduced from the collection of the Musée Nicéphore Niépce. Studio portraits, musicians and carefully arranged scenes of daily life reveal both the artistry of early photographic colour and the images of Japan circulated to Western audiences. The lacquer-like black boards and decorative cord recall the presentation of historical Japanese photograph albums. With a preface by Kenzo Takada, an introduction by François Cheval and captions by Chihiro Masui.
