Mauro D’Agati follows Tan, a 23-year-old dominatrix working in Bangkok’s Patpong district, between her staged BDSM performances and days spent with her daughter in rural Surin. Photographed in 2017, the work deliberately moves between professional persona and private life, refusing the exoticism that often surrounds representations of Thailand’s sex industry. The book combines black-and-white photographs of Tan in the countryside with a smaller colour sequence of her performance with a live snake.
