写狂老人A (Photo-Crazy A) — Nobuyoshi Araki — Kawade Shobo Shinsha — 2017
Published as the official catalogue for Araki’s 2017 Tokyo Opera City exhibition, Photo-Crazy A presents a deliberately excessive late-career self-portrait through more than 500 images. Recent photographs sit beside early material, diaries, flowers, skies, women and the rediscovered Yaoya no Ojisan project, collapsing chronology into Araki’s characteristic flow between daily life, eros and mortality. The title adapts Hokusai’s late-life persona “old man mad about painting,” recast by Araki at the age of seventy-seven.
