Vucciria — Mauro D'Agati — 89books

Mauro D’Agati photographs Vucciria as a Palermo district suspended between decline and reinvention. The centuries-old market, marked by wartime damage and later deterioration, has lost many of the fruit sellers, fishmongers and butchers that once defined it, while a younger nightlife has occupied the same streets. D’Agati holds these two temporalities together: older residents and traces of commercial life coexist with bars, street food and evening crowds. The result is a portrait of a neighbourhood actively changing.
