Limbo follows Sergio Castañeira’s return to photography after a spinal cord injury changed his life in 2014. Made with a mobile phone during his stay at the CRMF rehabilitation centre in San Fernando, Cádiz, from November 2015 to March 2020, the images and accompanying reflections form a diary of adaptation. Photographing became both a way to observe the centre and a means of reclaiming an activity he had been unable to practise for more than a year. The book brings together the experience of a particular place and the gradual reconstruction of everyday life within it. Its personal perspective gives rehabilitation a lived texture, attentive to time, surroundings and the possibility of making images under changed circumstances.
