トーキョーダイアリー / Tokyo Diary — Chikashi Kasai — Genkosha — 2019

In Tokyo Diary, Chikashi Kasai follows the changing city through rooms, streets and encounters photographed from 2017 onwards. Continuing the approach of Tokyo no Koibito, the book brings nude portraits into conversation with snapshots of the surrounding urban world. Its approximately 380 photographs unfold with the accumulation of a diary: one encounter gives way to another, and the city becomes inseparable from the people who inhabit it. Desire runs through this sequence, alongside the familiarity of everyday gestures and places. Kasai’s private perspective makes Tokyo feel inhabited at close range, seen through repeated moments of attraction and attention.
