The Children of Humble Freedom — Mauro D'Agati — 89books

Mauro D’Agati photographs children and young people within the everyday social fabric of Sicily, staying close to family, neighbourhood and the improvised freedoms of life lived outdoors. The pictures avoid nostalgia: play, boredom, affection and precarity coexist within the same visual world. Published by 89books, the book continues D’Agati’s long engagement with Palermo and Sicilian communities, where repeated access and familiarity allow ordinary gestures to carry more weight than isolated dramatic events.
