桂離宮 Katsura Imperial Villa — Yasuhiro Ishimoto

Yasuhiro Ishimoto’s Katsura Imperial Villa is a benchmark in the photographic representation of architecture, where the ancient rhythms of Kyoto’s imperial retreat meet the precision of modernist photographic vision. First produced in the 1950s and expanded with a second series in 1981, this edition, published by the Kochi Prefectural Museum of Art in 2010, reasserts the relevance of Ishimoto’s project with immaculate monochrome printing and redesigned layout.
