CCCP: Cosmic Communist Constructions Photographed – Frédéric Chaubin

A striking visual survey of late Soviet architecture, photographed by Frédéric Chaubin across fourteen former USSR republics. Between 2003 and 2010, Chaubin documented a generation of extraordinary buildings constructed between 1970 and 1990—structures that appear futuristic, utopian, and at times almost surreal. Far from standardized Soviet modernism, these projects reveal bold experimentation: flying saucer–like sanatoriums, brutalist civic monuments, space-age research institutes and monumental cultural centers.
