Yamamoto’s first photobook is an unusually close family portrait made inside the small apartment where he lived with his parents and siblings. Photographed between 2014 and 2017, the black-and-white images refuse both embarrassment and distance: clutter, illness, jokes, arguments and physical proximity all occupy the same domestic space. The result is less a study of dysfunction than a record of how a family’s habits, hardships and affection become inseparable from the rooms they share.
