部屋についての部屋 / A Room of Rooms — Alec Soth — Tokyo Photographic Art Museum — 2024 — Cover D

A bed, a pair of towels, a portrait made inside someone’s home: in Alec Soth’s photographs, rooms hold clues to lives that remain partly beyond our reach. Published for his 2024–2025 exhibition at the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, A Room of Rooms brings together almost thirty years of work through the recurring presence of interiors. Photographs from Sleeping by the Mississippi, Niagara and later series enter a new sequence alongside I Know How Furiously Your Heart is Beating and Advice for Young Artists. Moving between portraits, possessions and inhabited spaces, the selection traces how Soth approaches another person’s private world. Rooms become settings for intimacy, solitude and the distance that remains between photographer and subject.
