Palermo Gilden — Bruce Gilden — 89books

Bruce Gilden made Palermo Gilden during an 89books residency in December 2019, spending a week in the Ballarò market photographing vendors, shoppers and the distinctive faces that drew him through its narrow streets. His close-range portrait language turns the market into a sequence of individual encounters rather than a picturesque city study. This 2024 second edition expands the project with material from the continuing Palermo series, including five posters connected to Gilden’s later work at Mondello beach.
