Alejandro Cartagena, born in Santo Domingo in 1977 and based in Monterrey, is a photographer and publisher examining urban growth, housing, labour and inequality in contemporary Mexico. Projects including Suburbia Mexicana, Carpoolers and A Guide to Infrastructure and Corruption combine documentary photography with archival strategies and self-publishing. Darwin selects Cartagena for turning ordinary urban systems—commuting, construction, property and expansion—into precise visual evidence of economic and political structures.
