Twenty years working in narrative and documentary filmmaking shaped an obsession with photography as a way of thinking and remembering. That attention was formed in photobook stores in Tokyo, independent publishers across Asia, galleries in South Africa, and interactions with photographers and artists.

Curated by filmmaker Marcos Miján, The Darwin is first and foremost a space dedicated to photobooks and photographic publications—avant-garde, subcultural, and often hard to find. Books that offer singular perspectives on the world, and that reward slow looking rather than quick consumption.

Around this core, other objects appear naturally: editions, printed matter, artifacts and workshops that share the same photographic sensibility and way of seeing.

In a small village in the hills of Málaga, The Darwin exists as a physical place: an offline bookshop, a living archive, and a space open to visit. A place to browse slowly, handle books, sit with images, and spend time without pressure. No screens, no acceleration—just attention.
