Ackerman returns to Benares more than twenty years after the original End Time City , rebuilding the book rather than simply reprinting it. Photographs from the earlier work collide with new images made in 2018 and 2020: grain, blur, extreme contrast and fractured movement turn the sacred city into a feverish space suspended between life and death. Contact sheets, Polaroids, panoramas and folded elements expand the original sequence, while animals take on a stronger presence.
