なぎさホテル (Nagisa Hotel), Hajime Sawatari, SUPER LABO, 2015

A lost photographic sequence finally brought to light after half a century. Made between 1963 and 1964 in seaside hotels and beaches around Zushi, Shinagawa and Chigasaki, these images portray the photographer’s girlfriend, known only by her initials Y.O. Originally intended for publication in Camera Mainichi, the work was rejected by editor Shoji Yamagishi and remained unseen for decades. Combining delicate black-and-white photographs with later colour reproductions, the book offers a rare glimpse into Sawatari’s formative years.
