Cidade de Pedra — Antoine d’Agata — Void — 2016
Photography here is lived rather than observed. Made between 2005 and 2009 in the crack neighbourhoods of São Paulo and Salvador, this uncompromising work records bodies, sex, addiction and intimacy from within the environments d’Agata inhabited. Its 169 photographs—over 140 previously unseen—move between brutality and vulnerability without settling into documentary narrative. Presented as 57 unbound folds inside a silkscreened cardboard box, the book’s fragmented construction mirrors the instability of the experience itself: physical, nocturnal and deliberately unresolved.
