Claudio Pogo ― BILD (2023)

BILD is a radical editorial object—an archival détournement and visual autopsy of Europe’s most scandalous tabloid. Over the course of 7 years, Berlin-based artist Claudio Pogo meticulously collected over 500 original BILD Zeitung front pages, beginning with the inaugural issue from 1952. He then erased all text, headlines, captions, and logos—leaving behind only the photographs and graphic elements. What remains is a haunting, surreal sequence of unspoken spectacles—mass media imagery stripped of its weapons.

This Artist book presents 444 front pages spanning 50 years, each printed on a Risograph—the same print technology Axel Springer Verlag still uses for internal production. Riso black and crimson red echo the tabloid’s own palette, heightening the book’s uncanny fidelity and sly critique.
