BRUCE GILDEN
Working primarily in New York but also across Haiti, Japan, Ireland and the United States, Bruce Gilden built a photographic practice on confrontation and immediacy. Known for approaching strangers at extremely close range, often with a flash, he transformed the street into a stage of collision rather than observation. His photographs privilege presence over composition, producing images charged with tension, vulnerability and defiance. A member of Magnum Photos since 1998, Gilden remains one of the most divisive figures in street photography, pushing proximity to its limits and turning fleeting encounters into lasting portraits of urban life.
