Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908–2004) was a French photographer and co-founder of Magnum Photos in 1947. Influenced by surrealism, he photographed Europe, Asia and major political events using a Leica and precise geometric compositions. His book Images à la sauvette (1952) established the idea of the decisive moment. Darwin selects Cartier-Bresson for connecting street observation, cinematic timing and historical witness, where spontaneous encounters acquire the structure of carefully composed images.
