Juan Manuel Castro Prieto, born in Madrid in 1958, is a Spanish photographer and renowned photographic printer. His Contraluz laboratory has produced prints for García Rodero, García-Alix and Chema Madoz. In 1990, printing Martín Chambi’s original negatives in Peru initiated his own project, Perú, viaje al sol. Darwin selects Castro Prieto for connecting photographic authorship, historical archives and the craftsmanship of printing without confusing their distinct roles.
