Access is the foundation of this photographic diary of Tokyo’s traditional tattoo culture. After meeting Horikazu’s circle in 2011, de Goede returned to Japan repeatedly, eventually photographing inside the master’s studio and among his clients, including members of the yakuza. Across 154 black-and-white images, tattoo sessions, portraits, Sanja Matsuri and private gatherings reveal wabori not as spectacle but as a lived culture built around ritual, trust and belonging. Published in an edition of 1,000 copies.
