Sentimental Journey 1971–2017 — Nobuyoshi Araki — HeHe — 2017

Yoko is the thread running through Araki’s most personal photography. Published for the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum exhibition, this substantial volume follows their relationship from photographs made before their marriage through the 1971 honeymoon, everyday life, illness and her death in 1990, then traces her continued presence in his later work. It brings together 402 images from more than thirteen series, including all 108 photographs from the original Sentimental Journey, framing Araki’s idea of I-photography through intimacy, desire, grief and memory.
