Shot and compiled by Kanta Nomura over a period of more than a decade, The Yoshida Dormitory Students’ History spans both lived documentation and deep historical excavation — blending contemporary images with vernacular photographs from the Kyoto University Archives and alumni collections.

Founded as a self-governing dormitory within Kyoto University, Yoshida has long been a hub of radical student life — a place of music, theatre, resistance, and shared infrastructure. In recent years, its existence has come under threat from the university administration, who, citing the age of the building, initiated legal action to expel the remaining residents. As of 2023, the legal battle continues.

The book functions as both a documentary and an act of defiance — a visual memory palace of graffiti-covered walls, hand-written manifestos, and transient bodies.
