Au long cours — Marc Riboud, ATELIER EXB 2023
Published to mark the centenary of Marc Riboud’s birth, Au long cours presents 132 black-and-white photographs drawn from a life of constant motion—across borders, conflicts, rituals, and revolutions. The book functions as both monograph and voyage, tracing Riboud’s itinerant eye from Asia to Africa, from Tehran to Tokyo, always with quiet clarity and humane detachment. The cover, with its layered architectural forms and shadowy silhouettes, signals Riboud’s gift for structuring space as metaphor. His work resists spectacle, preferring the oblique moment: a gesture in a crowd, a solitary figure on a staircase, a face half-turned. With a text by Éric Fottorino and support from Pascal Duhamel, this large-format volume coincides with the major retrospective Marc Riboud – 100 photographies pour 100 ans at the Musée des Confluences in Lyon. As photobooks go, it is both elegant and essential—an expansive yet distilled view of one of the great humanist eyes of the 20th century.
