Edward Cushenberry delivers a sharply tender moment in this bold Polaroid-format drawing. A woman lies back on a bed, one arm resting across her body, her t-shirt lifted to reveal both a printed mask-like face and her own bare chest. Her eyes are shut, lips parted, and legs loosely drawn—yet the posture feels more protective than relaxed. Beneath her, the caption lands with heat and hesitation: “Don’t make me regret my orgasm!” It’s a line that could be funny, furious, or already too late.

Drawn in Cushenberry’s signature mixed media—Prismacolor, ink, graphite, and acrylic—the work pushes flatness and texture to the edge. The colors hum with emotional saturation: dusty purples, bruised reds, muted blue, the almost neon-pink of the bedding. There’s a surreal detail in the shirt design, a stylized face with doubled eyes, as if to echo the tension between outer cool and inner multiplicity. The drawing feels like it belongs to the lineage of underground comics, sex-positive zines, and grainy bedroom films, but its tone is fully Cushenberry’s: observational, irreverent, and quietly fierce.

This piece belongs to the ongoing series in which Cushenberry blends private moments and public posture, sex and self-awareness, youth culture and emotional residue. Small in scale but large in voice, it’s a drawing that speaks in the space after the conversation ends. Signed on the reverse, with raw edges and visible folds that add to its unapologetic presence.
