Rich & Poor – Jim Goldberg, Steidl 2014

A landmark portrait of America split by class. Made between 1977 and 1985 in San Francisco, this project pairs large-format portraits with handwritten testimonies from the wealthy and the destitute—subjects confronting their own image. First published in 1985 and long out of print, this Steidl edition restores the full sequence in a refined format. The tension between image and voice remains direct, unsettling, and structurally radical.
